CHRONOLOGY OF ROOD|NOOT

1880
Rood|Noot starts as a stud farm project.

1990-1991
The VINEX-report establishes the conditions for the expansion of urban areas in the Netherlands based on the concept of "conpact city".

1994
The plan making of the Leidsche Rijn, the newest residential addition to Utrecht, starts. The Dutch national government, the provincial government of Utrecht, five municipalities and two regional co-operative bodies sign an agreement with respect to the development of 30.000 houses over a period of 20 years (1995–2015) in Leidsche Rijn.

1995
The  municipalities of Utrecht (where 20.000 dwellings were to be placed) and Vleuten-De Meern (where 10.000 dwellings were to be placed) jointly produce a Masterplan for the development of the area destined to the Leidsche Rijn project.. Each of the municipalities goes its own way in the realization of this plan.

1996
Archaeologists start researching the area of Leidsche Rijn.

1997
The actual development of the Leidsche Rijn project starts when the municipality of Utrecht presents a detailed plan for the area of Leidsche Rijn situated on its territory.

1998
The first residents arrive in Leidsche Rijn.

2000
The municipality of Utrecht commissions a provisional evaluation of the development process of the Leidsche Rijn project.

2001
Both municipalities of Utrecht and Vleuten-De Meern are amalgamated. From then on, the whole of Leidsche Rijn is situated in the municipality of Utrecht.

2002-2003
Archaeologists discover the ancient military road and watchtowers  which date back to the mid-first century and which were reconstructed from stone in the second half of the second or first half of the third century.

2005
The theatre company The Moon, founded by Wout de Boer and Kirsten Roosendaal, arrives at the location of Rood|Noot after the death of the former owner, farmer and horse breeder Wout Harmoen.

2008
The neighbourhood of Leidsche Rijn already contains 14.000 dwellings and 36.000 inhabitants are already living there.

Archaeologists discover an ancient ship in the Leidsche Rijn area.

Peter Kolpa takes the decision to abandon 't Barre Land, his former theatre company, and Wout,
Kirsten and Peter all  together  found Rood|Noot as a theatre comnpany. In the meanwhile, Rood|Noot continues to operate as a farm

2015
A series of pictures will be here posted each week during the period from April to June in order to give documentary evidence of the multiple spatial changes that are happening at Rood|Noot and its surrounding landscape.

2025
The neighbourhood of Leidsche Rijn is expected to be completed.
